Have You SKYPED Anyone Today?   

Need to interview someone who is out of the area? Waiting for them to drive or fly up for an in-person interview?  Did you know that for about $20 you can turn your computer into a video conferencing device? Plug a webcam / microphone into your USB port and sign up for the free video service through SKYPE and you are there.    (skype.com, currently being purchased by Microsoft)

We have several customers who are making it a regular part of their HR process. You can interview over your computer. See and hear the person you are interviewing for free. If your connection is a bit slow you can call them and do the voice over the phone and the video on your computer.  I had one employer walking around his dealership with his laptop pointing his camera at every nook and cranny to show off the store. On the flip side, I have heard about people who neglected to take into consideration exactly what was in their background……all I can say is watch your back!

As a historical first this month we had our first placement where their only contact was on SKYPE.
